Located on a historical naval base on Rickover is Mare Island Health & Fitness Academy. This school serves students in grades TK through 8th grade where they have the opportunity to attain excellence in intellectual, physical and emotional fitness, both now and into the future.

While the adopted curriculum matches what we use at other sites in the district, students at Mare Island participate in extended physical education activities daily along with additional learning opportunities through community partnerships with Touro University and Kaiser Permanente.

Mare Island is one of our neighborhood schools, so lottery spaces are limited and there is often a waiting list. Priority is given to students who live within the boundaries and lottery spaces are available for a limited time in the spring. The school also offers a no-cost Expanded Learning Program daily after school and has limited space each year. Please contact Danielle Brever by email with any questions dbrever@vcusd.org.
